Yuri on Ice is one of those series that has been so hyped I'm afraid to even try it.

(Plus I was more interested when I only heard the name and thought it was about lesbians, my bad.)

I was waiting for it to be over before giving it a shot. It's really short, you could knock it out in a weekend if you wanted to. You might not, once you hit that middle block, but I'd say by the third episode you should know pretty well whether the show is for you or not.

People like you are the most annoying. Yuri is a name and it's not even written the same way as girls love. What about the promo art and trailers gave you the impression it would be about lesbians? Do you realize how stupid it would be to title it Yuri on Ice? Just as stupid as it would sound to call it Yaoi on Ice.

There's been a series about lesbian bears (Yurikuma Arashi), so lesbians figure skating isn't that crazy.

And how are people supposed to distinguish ユーリ from ユリ when the official romanization is Yuri on Ice?

nayrt, and I have never seen the source material, but thanks to your comment, I have only just this moment realized that "Yuri on Ice" is not YURI-yuri, but in fact the name Yuri. Go figure.

Two points:

1. YAOI on Ice would be an awesome title, tyvm.

2. You're not quite right about the 'most annoying" thing.

Bonus point: Since nots are being picked, it's YAOI, not 'yaoi' because YAOI is an acronym.

If we're being that picky, it's not YAOI either. You're thinking of BL. Yaoi refers to fictional non-canon relationships. There's no such thing as YAOI manga because if the author wrote it in, it's automatically canon.

Because I had not even seen a trailer or any art but just people saying the name to me? My mind first went to girls love because that's how I heard it.

I mean, animes can have dumb names there was also nothing to tell me that it wasn't just a nickname decided by fandom because I literally knew nothing about it. I don't even think "Yuri on Ice" is a good name really.
