Petty Complaints

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to make myself a sandwich for lunch and there is literally NO BREAD in the house because my mom and my sister have decided to go on yet another diet.

I think it may have something to do with gluten, this time, because the only breadlike substance is a package of gluten-free tortillas that are made with potato flour and rice flour. (Because normal corn tortillas that just happen to be gluten-free by virtue of being made with maize instead of wheat flour just won't do.)

They're $5.99 for a pack of six, so even if I was desperate enough to try making a burrito with one, I'd probably get yelled at for it.

And yeah, I could just go to the store and buy bread. But I worked and ran errands today and I just want to veg for a while.

Your only recourse is to go grocery shopping and buy at least 3 kinds of bread. I recommend some kind of roll, English muffins, and whatever kind of sandwich bread has the most gluten in it.

Next time you do feel up to going shopping, buy whatever your favorite kind of bread is, but also buy flour and yeast, then look up recipes and start making bread. If you really want to go all out, buy some seitan too--seitan is a traditional meat substitute that's basically all wheat gluten; it makes a decent sandwich meat, although it can be kind of bland on its own, but then so can chicken.
