Breakfast Foods

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering whether you all had any opinions about breakfast foods you'd like to share - whether it's your morning routine or your favorite thing to go out for.

Also: what's your favorite out if the breakfast meats?

On weekdays, I just eat an apple or banana for breakfast.

But if I have the time my favorite breakfast are chocolate chip waffles and sausage (my favorite breakfast meat).

Fried potato scone, fried eggs (soft), fried tomato, fried mushrooms, fried black pudding and fruit pudding, smoked bacon, and fried slice sausage. Now that is a breakfast that will set you up for the day. Maybe a portion of grapefruit just to be healthy, too.

best the fruit pudding be fried, too. thematically complete breakfasts will give an item set bonus.

The frying seems implied. Fried fruit pudding slices are pretty great though.

I love Taylor Ham for breakfast meats. It's also known as pork roll and pretty much only found in New Jersey (you can buy it elsewhere, but we eat it all the time here).

Weekdays: Cheerios.
Weekends vary a lot depending on my mood - English muffins, apple pancakes, toast with jelly. Basically whatever I can whip up in the time frame.

Who is Taylor Ham?

It's the brand name of pork roll. In South Jersey, they call it pork roll, but in North Jersey everyone refers to it as Taylor Ham.

I LOVE breakfast foods! I love an omelette with asparagus, mushrooms, onions and Gruyere cheese. I love a breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, refried beans and plenty of cheddar cheese and salsa. I love a croque madame with crispy bread and good ham, and a runny yolk on the egg. I love Hawaiian breakfast rice: pork fried rice with a fried egg on top. Every Christmas morning I make a big dish of baked eggnog French toast flavored with Gran Marnier liqueur. And always I love mimosas with all the breakfast foods! My favorite meats are sausage and bacon but good ham is hard to beat too!

I usually have diced pear/apple and banana mixed with chia seeds and greek yoghurt. The fruit tones down the sourness of the yoghurt so I don't have to add sugar. And also a cup of tea (no sugar, dash of milk). I'm a creature of habit.

Red Barron used to make these awesome breakfast pizzas and I miss them.

These days it's just some nuts and dried fruit/ rice cakes and cream cheese / toast / an egg and some bacon.

Waffles and pancakes though? I don't get them often but oh my god I love them.

I like making a pot of steel-cut oatmeal on the weekends and then divvying it up into individual containers to eat during the week. There are all kinds of ways you can prepare oatmeal to make it interesting, and I like steel-cut oats because if I cook them with less water than called for and over a med-high heat, it doesn't get mushy. (I like my oatmeal on the dry side.)

This morning I made it like so:

3 cups water + 1 cup milk
2 cups dry steel-cut oats
(Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium to medium-high and cook uncovered)

Add:
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 big pinch of chai-spiced sugar (OR 1 TB white or brown sugar + cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom OR a baking spice blend OR whatever)
3 pears, peeled and diced

Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently. I cook it until enough liquid has boiled off that when I run my spoon through it across the bottom, I can see the bottom of the pan for a second or two.

At this point, I pour one serving into a bowl and then divide the rest into five tupperware containers to eat during the week, and put those away in the fridge. Then I put sugar-free maple syrup on today's bowl and eat it along with some apple chicken sausage for protein.

That sounds so yummy! I really want to get into pre-making breakfast for the week.

I looove steel cut oatmeal, and love experimenting with different additions. I usually just go for different fruit combos, but yours sounds amazing. I might have to try that sometime this week!

I've also never considered pre-cooking for the week. I guess I just didn't consider oatmeal one of those things that you could do that with? Idk. I'll have to try that too!

You all are making me hungry.

Most mornings I just eat a protein bar or a hard-boiled egg. Ideally, I'd have pancakes.

I prefer bacon out of the meats.

Usually a sandwich of wholemeal bread with lots of seed (roasted pumpkin and sunflower, sesame, linseed, etc. I make my own long raised bread and it's delicious) with some kind of cheese or meat spread, to last me all the way to lunch. Water is nice company and then some hot coffee at work.

In weekends I like a bowl of Greek yogurt with a little honey and unsweetened cereal or oatmeal. Or, if we go all out, we cook eggs and eat them with sardines or caviar spread and a sprinkle of chopped leek. Fresh orange juice is a perfect aside.

Cream of Wheat with sliced up strawberries, yum.
Or a smoothie with blueberries, banana, strawberries and almond milk, with a protein powder.

Bacon, all the way.

Breakfast is my favorite!! At home I like to make myself a spinach and onion omelet with a bagel. When I go out I love getting chocolate chip pancakes and bacon.

There's a diner in my hometown that my best friend and I have gone to fairly often for like ten years. It's a local place just run by a family and they recognize us and know our order, and they're so nice to talk to. Usually I feel uncomfortable with being a recognized regular at a restaurant, but at this one it's really nice actually.

But any other time of day I LOVE American Breakfast Foods - Pancakes, French Toast, Hashbrowns, Eggs cooked a million different ways . Omelets. Toast, Bagels, English Muffins, Blueberry Muffins. I don't eat a lot normally, but I can put away half an IHOP menu in one sitting.

Favorite Breakfast Meats, in order: Sausage, Links; Sausage, Patties(mm, breakfast sandwiches); Steak(mm, steak & eggs); Bacon; Ham

I have a weird relationship to breakfast. My sleep pattern is really chaotic, and I am almost never in the mood for any traditional "breakfast foods" if I am awake in the morning.

My most consistent breakfast is sushi, on shopping days.

Vegetarian, so no favorite meats. But I do really like MorningStar fake bacon. I cook it, then crumble it up in my omelette for a tastey treat on weekend mornings!

In the winter I'm a big fan of steel cut oats with fruit cooked in. But that takes time, so it's not an every day thing.

I love breakfast foods. I have to eat very low-meat for health reasons and breakfast is the only meal where eggs are really common. I mean sure eggs pop up now and then at other meals, but they're really only common for breakfast. I love pancakes, waffles, crepes, most of the common American ways of cooking eggs, I used to love hashbrowns before the no-nightshades thing, biscuits, grits, livermush...

Though because I'm lazy, breakfast-food breakfast tends to be a special occasion or breakfast-for-dinner thing, otherwise breakfast is leftovers from dinner the night before.

My favorite breakfast meat is bacon because it's (almost-always) nightshade free and has a strong flavor that goes amazingly in other food. Throw it in soups, fry it with cabbage, use it in pasta carbonara, a little goes a long way.
