Well, I don't obviously, but most people who are divorcing or separated usually state this? ie 'estranged spouse' 'soon to be ex' etc.

Is it? I mean, I know you have to pay for all the legal stuff, but are there reasons that would prevent divorce entirely?

Even without kids involved, there's still the matter of trying to figure out how to divvy up everything you own. Suddenly, one or both of you are looking at having to move to a new home and buy a new car (plus possibly having to sell your current car and put your current home on the market), buy new furniture, and potentially new tech stuff if you're a household that has a singular TV/sound system/game console and games collection/etc.

Some people are really good at uprooting and rerooting their lives that way, but for many (probably most?) people it can seem almost impossibly daunting. I don't speak from experience as I've never been married, but I know that I'm the sort of person who would take forever to end it, not from a lack of emotional conviction but simply because I would be paralyzed by the dread of having to completely tear my life apart and put it back together all over again.
