It looks like a logical progression to me honestly...what is the issue with it?

They no longer looked like the same character (except Courtney, who just got a dye job and a dull expression). Look at Matt here and tell me you could guess he was meant to be the same person.

I mean it's kind of hard to make really detailed images that look recognizably like pixellated sprites without waaaay dumbing them down. They wanted to add more detail and I think that makes sense to me.

I do think it looks like him in general, same outfit and beard, and same way of carrying himself. The skin is darker but other than that, it was just adding in some details that would have been difficult to convey with the sprite.

The newer design is way more interesting, and obviously there's going to be some interpretation going on when you're drawing something without much detail. I think they did a good job.

I'm still not sure what your specific complaints were. Was it something they added with the outfit?

Their argument seems to be, literally, "It's different so I hate it."

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's not it. It's more of "it's NEEDLESSLY different so I'm confused by it".

When they redesigned Team Rocket for 3rd and 4th gens, the designs felt naturally descended from the originals. Even Giovanni, the most changed character, was just "he's the same guy in a different outfit", and the four executives look natural as newly unique characters. But Matt and Shelly and Tabitha and the bosses look like almost completely new characters.

Okay but that original design is boring and generic as fuck. It has no personality to it at all. Of course they'd change it to something more interesting if they could.

Surely they could have made him still look like the same person though.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-28 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, the original design was hideously boring and generic. The new one has far more personality to it.
