Resident Evil is an almost exclusively singleplayer series that has become increasingly difficult to take seriously as it devolves into comic book nonsense about mutants created by viral infection. The early games were scary in that you were short on ammo against zombies and other monsters and the camera angles were deliberately designed to increase tension through obscuring your vision, but sometime around 2004 the series has become much more action oriented and much, much sillier.
