Not the OP, but I can say from experience that having a group of good friends who can go 'lol, you're a dumbass, but whatever' when a person does something bigoted does a lot more to make them reconsider being a dumbass bigot than just flat out shunning them. If you shun them, they just go out and find more dumbass bigots to hang out with and encourage them and then you get dumbass bigot clubs electing presidents.

With the disclaimer of if you're part of the group they're being bigoted against that can be dangerous or much less effective and it's never anyone's responsibility to try and rehabilitate dumbass bigots.
