At what point are we going to stop being surprised about the fact that practically no one in fandom is interested in science fictional speculation, or theories of magic, or wacky interplay between genres, and that everyone in fandom is interested in makeouts and friendship

I'm as guilty of it as anyone, but

I've always been interested in all of those things, but I've never been interested in Pokemon.

I'm interested in some of those things too. I'm not saying no one's interested in them or that they're bad. Just that there's always going to be much more interest in the other, and we should at least stop being surprised by it

Actually you make it seem like it would be a fair-sized group if you rounded up all these people who apparently keep doing this.

It's a lot of people on F!S. I don't know whether or not that constitutes a fair-sized group or not.

Honestly, I'm just sort of amused at the weary "this again?" tone mixed with the claim that "practically no one" is like this. Does't seem to go together to me.

But I'm also a little loopy from lack of sleep.

I'm being honest - I think it's a relatively small percentage in fandom as a whole, but very pronounced on here.

It's one of our distinctive traits, like being old women, and shipping Harry/Luna.

My theory is that people who're really interested in developing magic systems don't actually finish their stories because they get bored writing the character stuff.
