On the other hand, though, how much do people love this guy who's barely in the movie? The character hardly registered on me, and I was on the lookout for this actor after seeing Ex Machina earlier that year.

Yeah, same. I'm pretty floored by the enthusiasm over him - I came out of the movie and hardly remembered he existed. It does kind of make it seem like people are looking for the hot Nazi villain they can enjoy.

Does he have any depth other than giving a scenery-chewing speech unworthy of the memory of Peter Cushing before firing the super-weapon?
