Lent

I just got back from attending my first ever Ash Wednesday service, and I wondered: is anyone here observing Lent? If yes, how are you doing it?

I used to back when I was more religious, but haven't for a few years now. I gave up a site I was addicted to one year - I didn't realize how addicted until I gave it up.

Nope. Putting aside that so much of Ash Wednesday and Lent seems performative to me, my relationship with god is my relationship with god, and I don't think it's contingent on whether or not I "give something up" for 40 days but rather on how I treat his creation.

I'm not a Christian, but I used to frequently "give something up" for Lent as more of an opportunity to practice self-discipline and control. Like, giving up sweets, giving up meat, alcohol, TV, that kind of thing. I guess it's sort of a spiritual practice in a way, though I forgot about it this year.

I do that too, some years.

On the "giving up" side, trying to give up on chocolate and soft drinks. On the "positive self improvement" side, trying to be more patient with people, and to spend more time thinking about others instead of me.

For Lent, I'm giving up.

(Joke, not my religion, best wishes to those of you observing it.)

Late, but I'm observing Lent.

What I really hope for this Lent is to pray more, and attentively. Do morning prayer. Try to give up the things that distract me, and try to give up my pettiness/the way I treat some people. I'm hoping to deepen my relationship with Christ.

Have a good Lent!
