Anybody watching Hawaii Five-0?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I need to know if I’m imagining this or not.

I just watched the most recent episode yesterday and what I got from it is that Steve is in love with Danny. It’s not like they haven’t done things to make them seem like a couple before, but this wasn’t subtext. Steve got mad at Danny for not telling him about Danny thinking about retiring and he actually compared it to not telling Rachael, Danny’s ex-wife. Steve said “I love you, bro,” which, yeah, had the ‘bro’, but didn’t sound very bro-ish. Steve said that if Danny retires and opens a restaurant that he has to name the restaurant ‘Steve’s’ so even if they’re not together, they’ll still be together (yes, he actually said that). And he was ecstatic when he thought Danny said he would (there was a bomb explosion of a dirty bomb that they had un-dirtied, because of course there was, and they couldn’t actually hear each other). Then, later, they’re having a dinner party with everyone and Grover gets a call and steps outside and Steve follows when Grover looks upset, Grover tells him that the mayor, PD, and Five-0 were supposed to be the target of the dirty bomb and Steve is upset that Five-0 was a target but when he looks inside, the camera focus is pretty much Danny. Now, maybe my slash goggles are on too tight. But I have slashed a lot of characters and I don’t think I’ve ever spontaneously said out loud that one of them was in love with the other, as I did yesterday at the end of this episode.

I haven't kept up with the show but every single gif I've seen lately seems to be more and more blatant. Are their numbers slipping, they're encouraging the still-devoted slash fans? (Let's face it slashers are super loyal!) Or are they serious with the ever-more-in-your-face aspects of Danny and Steve?? I want to know, too...

Of course it might all be a big "no homo bro" thing in the end, but there's certainly just about as much TEXT as SUBTEXT recently.

No, actually, they're pulling better numbers than they have in a couple years.

Of course it might all be a big "no homo bro" thing in the end Well, yeah, there's always that possibility, but YES - there's certainly just about as much TEXT as SUBTEXT recently.

You're not imagining it, they're definitely writing it as less and less subtext and more actual text. But, tbh, I doubt they'll ever go there with the way the show runner/exec producer keeps pushing for his bb queen Catherine to come back. At this point, it's more baiting than anything.

You're probably right.

Tbh, Steve's been that way about Danny pretty much from the start of the show. You know, I really wish that one day, one of these action-y, testosterone-fueled shows would just say fuck it and actually pay off their ho yay.

I do agree that Steve seems to have always had a lot of <>feelings</> about Danny that he doesn't mind showing (I don't know whether it's O'Loughlin's face or his acting style, but I swear to God, a few times I've thought that Steve was going to cry when Danny was upset with him). I think if they were going to pay it off, though, it would be right at the very end.
