Whenever I hear about how cool glass is (and hell yeah it is), I always think of Peter Carey's novel Oscar & Lucinda. Lucinda is a heiress who buys a glassworks in 19th century Australia. There is an excellent film of it (see icon), and it is really cool to see a Prince Rupert's drop used, but for the most interesting and beautifully-written passages concerning glass I highly recommend the book.
