Research/reading on fandoms you aren't in?

Has anyone ever done reading for a fandom you haven't seen or read or whatever and know nothing about just for fun?

I spent several hours today on the TVTropes pages for Warhammer 40k. Also have done research on the World of Warcraft games in the past.

I don't read a lot of comics but I love to read about them, especially stuff about strange continuity. There's just something about the flexibility of the medium where it's like anything goes and people can go back and rewrite things to their heart's content that is fascinating to me.
