Here's an interesting, partially related question that I've always wondered about...

If Christians are anti-masturbating as it kills sperm, what do they think about periods? Are periods sins if God gave them to women? What about female masturbation, as it doesn't waste eggs?

There's that line about gay men in Leviticus, but the Bible actually says nothing at all about lesbians.

Still bad, because women have no business taking charge of their own sexuality. Duh.

I don't think Christians are largely anti-masturbation. I think that it's generally preferred to be careful with it due to temptation to have sex with other people pre-marriage. The explanation I've heard against masturbation is because sexual things are only supposed to be expressed within marriage, not because it "wastes sperm". Especially since most Christian sects don't have issues with birth control. (The pope may be anti-condom, but he doesn't have anything to do with Protestants.)

While masturbation [or Onanism] was originally a sin because it wasted seed, I think it's more commonly decried these days because it's a "dirtying of the body" and an indulgence in lust. You know, one of the Seven Sins. So, yeah, female masturbation is probably a sin.

Menstruation, however, is a natural function so, really, no one can be blamed for it. Of course, women were often isolated during that time so they wouldn't pollute things, or somesuch, but...yeah. I think that's mostly been done away with in civilized nations.

Leviticus does in fact go off on how menstruation makes a woman "unclean" and she needs to be isolated for those days- her husband isn't supposed to touch her (I think? or maybe he's just not supposed to have sex with her...), anything she sits on has to be purified, etc. After her cycle she's supposed to bring a sacrifice to the temple and have the priest bless her before she's considered clean again. So yeah, it's not a sin, but it is seen as dirty.

And as far as I know, the Bible doesn't say anything about female masturbation, but that's probably because its writers were so misogynistic that the possibility of females taking any sort of sexual initiative never occurred to them. :/

I'm not a Christian, but from what I remember the primary mention of masturbation in the Bible is when God wants what's-his-name to get his wife pregnant, but the dude doesn't want children so he whacks off instead of sexing up his wife (or something like that), and that's what got God pissed off.

actually no--but thank you for bringing this up. I had actually learned about this recently.

God didn't get angry at him because he masturbated, but rather because he was avoiding having children. That's not to say God wants everyone to have kids, but He commanded that man and woman specifically to have children, but the man didn't follow that promise.

The masturbation was just the way to keep it from happening. It's often misinterpreted.

Don't you know? Just being female is a sin. :P
