22. I'm going to watch that haha if I can find it =).
31. You don't have to move on but you don't have to feel guilty. The internet isolate people from full understanding... hell being with them does. After learning about mental diseases in psych classes I've realized just how cruel human response is to the people that need it most... but don't blame yourself. We all fall victim to it and you really didn't know just how bad it was.
36. I... think i like it better than all those retarded shipping wars haha <3
39. I completely understand as Nana is a remarkably touching series. Honestly, it was the one thing that was helping me through the worst time in my life.
40. ;__; 100% me too. Well... excluding the giant spiders... I love that kind of... folksy homey kind of society that is so lacking today's world =/
46. Some of them started with Naruto. My friends and I were discussing how there are different groups that started in anime in slight waves. Personally I'm proud to be part of one of the oldest groups. Thank you but I'll keep the classics to myself so I don't have to share it with all the tards out there =P
57. Sorry... but aren't they... VERY different? To me Tsuna is Simon from GL, Taichi is more like Mag from . I hate to be a petty fan but Taichi is far the opposite. I would even compare him to Ryohei far more (very over-excited and enthusiastic, gets ahead of himself, etc). In fact Tsuna's growth is about believing in himself which Taichi was taught that danger exists and not to treat everything like a game. I could make plenty of examples but I fear I already exposed enough of my digimon-nerdrage.
62. haha I'm openly saying that reborn and all these shonen are successful on the same base as most popular things are. They're shallow, simple and uplifting. What this stems into is a VERY successful fandom because people are able to morph the show with a framework to their liking. Large casts of characters with one-dimensional personalities that can be shaped to both the secret preferences of said fandom and of personal identity makes them very appealing. Really, all the things I truly love I cant touch the fandom because i like it just the way it is. Things that I hate, I have more fun in their fandom because they're easy to mold...

Re: 62
Just had to respond because I have a hell of a lot of love for the Reborn plotlines, but the thing that will always keep me lovin' the series is the characters ♥
Re: 62
I have to agree to an extent, especially since I consider Gokudera a rather developed character (from what we have given about his central person versus the others)... the other ones, to me are rather shotty. Mukuro has the potential to not be but there are inconsistencies. Tsuna emulates the typicalities of many characters i've seen before... as do all the other characters follow archetypes. Yamamoto has no basis for his development thusfar and neither does Hibari. I think it's easy to mold them into being characters that can be shaped easily though... in most series that is the case.
However, what I truly mean by one-dimensional is for the most part they can be described by central characteristics that made them easily identifiable (not always a bad thing of course) which.... actually is rather appropriate for a comedy, but for anything that has a plot I tend to have a more of a bias. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. After all many series work on this basis and have many great qualities. Being developed and even giving them motivations doesn't always make them a deep character... it's just people are not that simple and we have a tendency to typify people in that light.
Also I feel many of the central characters emulate certain popular human traits. They all embody loneliness for one, but they also are empty enough that fans are able to project themselves onto a singular/multiple character(s). They all represent a loner, abandoned type and make them seem badass/cool... if you will which in retrospect is why I feel as a whole anime, particularly shonen tend to entrance a lonelier generation. It makes people feel better simply about themselves and attach themselves to happier and more simplistic/happy values.
Also I know one thing that turns me off from a series right away is a definable evil... people who are truly evil. There is no doubt that there are horrid people in the world, but there needs to be something there. I'm almost following the series along to fully understand Irie and see if Amano does something unusual.
I suppose that is why Reborn to me (particularly from writing) either falls into complete crack (where it is so irrationally ridiculous) to utterly dark(where i look at the psychological aspects of it and try to meat out the characters I feel are neglected). I mean I bare in comparison to some of the lovely writers/artists that are amidst this fandom.
I mean I like so many things that I could critique with the same words, I just cherish more the things that outstep those boundaries.
(sorry if this is incoherent, i'm responding at 4:30 in the morning bleh =_=)
Re: 62
Actually, I just find it impossible to call a character one-dimensional when I can't simply describe their character with their core characteristics as well-- funnily enough, the characters I have the most problem with in regards to that are Gokudera, Yamamoto, Squalo (funnily enough), and when I think about it Tsuna and Reborn. With all those characters, I try to explain them and each ONE ends up sounding like TWO (or more!) different characters and it confuses people I try to describe them to. XD
I do think a lot of the characters are relatively flat, but not in a bad way per se-- Kyoko and Haru don't really have development, neither do Lambo or I-Pin as babies OR adults, most of the minor characters don't, etc. Until the future arc Hibari was actually the most ONE-DIMENSIONAL CHARACTER EVER and I never had any idea how people read so much into his character and thought it was canon, agh. XD
"They all embody loneliness" sorta sounds weird to me, but... I get what you mean? I think a lot of series do that too, though, and mostly for the reasons you say-- connecting to people is a major thing, and it makes sense that a series would reflect that. One of the reasons I personally love Reborn is the character interactions- even the flat ones are given glimpses of being really interesting. Mukuro seems to... pause around Tsuna at the end of the fight with Marmon, when Tsuna denies that his whole reason CAN'T just be for using other people, and he neither confirms or denies this... but Tsuna's intuition is hella sharp, so that always interested me. Haru actually getting UPSET at Tsuna in the Future Arc really hit me in a happy place, cos before that she'd mostly been the HAHIII~ TSUNA DESU DESU I RABU YOUUUU fangirl. Etc.
Tsuna does everything he does to keep his friends safe, and his friends loff him for it. 8D I like that "lonely" characters (and you're right... Gokudera, Yamamoto, Hibari, Mukuro, Chrome- all except Ryohei, l-lol- really do embody that before being pulled in by Jesus!Tsuna XD) are driven to greater lengths and depths because of finding something meaningful, even if that meaningful thing is standing there going "AUUUUGH SCARY DO NOT WANT WHY IS IT ALWAYS ME T____T" XD
Haha, I can handle real evil... as long as it is given a reason. I don't need an excuse, cos that can be overdone- for example, I can see a villain being truly fucked up, and having reasons and maybe you can even sympathize, but they can also truly be evil on top of that, and some things you just can't like... forgive or explain away even with the most horrible childhood EVWAR. (Also, I do love me some irredeemable asshole baddies who are in it for the fun XD lol Bel, Gamma, etc.) I want to see what's happening with Irie... and with Byakuran, but yeah, Shou-chan is seeming more and more interesting as we go. I have faith in Amano just because of the stuff she's pulled with Mukuro and the Varia.
I love the balance it has between crack and dark myself, but I can see where the fanworks would lean one way or the other- it's interesting to explore a certain aspect. There's tons of stuff I know will never happen in the series/will never be delved into that I'd love to explore (SPOILERS: theeee... amazing secret in the most recent batch about Kyoko being a yandere- LOLZ BUT SOMEHOW DO WANT). And I think I've seen your stuff around, actually. 8D I RECOGNIZE YOUR NAME SO I MUST LIKE YOU, l-lol.
(Haha, I am responding to you at 5AM MAYBE WE SHOULD SLEEP? Oh, hey, mind if I friend you? I like the way you think ♥)
Re: 62
I think the central theme of everyone bonding around Tsuna is similar to what makes Shonen and a lot of anime/manga in general likable because it promotes the values of friendship and so forth. I mean of all things Oretachi no Joy really was pulling me through some of the unhappier moments I was going through. I think for series that aren't particularly amazing like Naruto, but have such a remarkable following is because it takes such lonely and incapable people as well and makes them champions. It's the superhero affect with slighter bodies (kids).
(To be honest a lot of what she has pulled has happened in a lot of series I've known and therefore I actually couldn't stand the Varia arc XD) But yeah it can be overdone, I mean even Xanxus felt overdone for me. I think a great kind of a villain is one with a slightly bent perspective, but I guess I'm sick of seeing the powerhungry/vengeful types a bit. I think a problem for me is I start connecting characters to characters I've seen before and if they become too common I tend to lose interest.
Actually the Tsuna's death aspect was definitely a fic that I was working on haha. I did the first two chapters but then school attacked me... I am planning to finish it over the summer though. And yes I'd be soo happy if Kyoko was (I was almost thinking Yama would be for a while, he totally seems like the type that would completely snap one day) I actually realized in my personal opinion I agree with the fact that I'd like the series better if all the genders were swapped. I think that the way the females are shown is relatively demeaning and seriously... thats the biggest problem I have with reborn (and most entertainment media haha) I think a lot of women are taught to hate women because of the gender stereotypes. Men become more relatable because they are deeper characters while the females are left to be hollow shells. Back when I was a more serious fanfic author I actually had a habit of doing the stories from the feminine perspective and giving a deeper role and persona to the female.
...Or you've seen me babbling on the community incoherently. I'm good at that XD;
(Friending would be great! =D Yeah lol I mean we're having an indepth conversation on F!S for godsake XD)
