He just makes me feel old because I remember him without wrinkles.

I watched the first ep and was all "wait...is that? omg he's now playing 'the dad'?" And immediately felt very old.

Hardcore agree with the first part (Archie is so boring). Don't agree with the second part, but fair enough, it's as good a reason as any.

Also unrelated (and Riverdale spoilers if anyone cares) but I'm really glad they've gone different directions with the romantic storylines. It's really refreshing and way better than imagining watching Betty and Veronica obsessing over Archie's dumb ass.

I read the comics, but don't have cable anymore so I'm interested in how they're handling those two characters outside of the standard love triangle.

Well, right now, Betty is investigating the Dead Teen with Jughead, and also making out with Jughead. Archie is trying to start a music career, and also making out with one of the Pussycats. and Veronica is investigating her corrupt dad's gang ties and not making out with anyone really I don't think which is kind of a shame.

"Betty is investigating the Dead Teen with Jughead, and also making out with Jughead"

excuse u are you telling me that the ship I've shipped for years, knowing it was Never Going To Happen in the comics but still shipping it regardless, is actually happening in this horrible show that I've been avoiding because it seems to be ruining everything fun about the Archie & friends franchise? WHY DOES THE WORLD TAUNT ME SO

You don't watch it, but you know it's horrible and ruining things. Ok then.

What I like about Archie comics is that they're dumb and ridiculous and light hearted and sort of "fixed" in a happy place where everyone lives and loves and doesn't learn a darn thing but it's pretty much all happy sunshine anyway and status quo rules the day. Whereas the show is serious and dramatic and heavy in tone and switching character dynamics up majorly, so don't try to pretend that there's no difference there or that liking the comics because they're so fluffy and silly and cheery should mean that I would passionately adore an adaptation that features none of that.

NAYRT

The show definitely isn't light-hearted or fluffy, but I would say it's still pretty dumb and ridiculous. It's completely melodramatic to the point of absurdity. That's what makes it fun. Everything happens and it's all completely insane to the point where the show is definitely aware of it.

It's definitely not something you would necessarily like if you were super into the comics, but it's an interesting take and I really enjoy it.

On top of that (spoilers), Archie was in a relationship with a teacher, which is implied to be part of why he was having an issue dealing with the love triangle. (Since, you know, that's creepy a.f.)

damn, he's turning into a raisin
