Re: how does one go about finding a job in a city you don't live in?

If you work more "professional" jobs, it's not unheard of to relocate cities. Apply for jobs online where you are, get out loads and loads of resumes, and mention that you are "planning" to relocate to the city that company is in. They should be able to interview you via phone or skype. Otherwise, be prepared to take a quick trip out to that city for the interview.

If you don't work that type of job, your best bet is to probably just move. It shouldn't (hopefully) take too long to find a job at a Starbucks or something.

It really depends on the type of job you want, but yeah. I got my job remotely and interviewed by phone, and then moved after I was offered the job. It definitely can be done, but I do think you are at a slight disadvantage if you are not in the city. Just keep tossing resumes left and right though. Even if it's just for a job "to get by" until you find something closer to your desired career path.
