76. ... er... "poleaxed", in terms of being dumbstruck/stopped dead with shock, is meant to be METAPHORICAL. Except you seem to know this and don't care...? o_o It's perfectly valid metaphorical language. Maybe "poleaxed" gives the mood the writer is hoping to achieve better than any of the other alternatives? Maybe it's just, you know, not something to take literally/get hugely worked up over?

Why do some people treat alternative language uses like they walked in on hyphenated compound nouns having a threeway with their girlfriends? Why why WHY!?
