07. I'm not sure that was the message we were supposed to take from that.

16. Agreed. His personality does a 180 for the sake of the romantic subplot, and while I've seen this happen to teenagers in love before, it never lasts. Squall/Rinoa is undeniably canon... for a couple of weeks, before both 17-year-olds realize that he isn't a knight in shining armor but rather an antisocial ass/she isn't a pretty princess in need of saving, but rather a very strong-willed but also very immature young socialite.

17. Nah, I'm the same way. I've always identified more with male characters and I have no gender issues. I blame it on the portayal of female characters in the media - i.e., if there were more female characters I could relate to, I would.

20. I don't think you're overthinking it. It is misogynist. And there are plenty of other ways they could get off.

This from the person who wondered the whole time what would get one to lose their ears while reading Loveless. Is oral enough? Does it have to be penetrative? If so, most straight guys would have their cat ears for life.

It kinda was, but that is spoilers for Episode Aegis (the Answer in the US release), so you don't find out until the very very end

I'm familiar with the plot of Episode Aegis, but I think the point was more "we all die in the end so make the best of your life while you're alive" than "don't kill yourself or Minato will cry".

Here there be spoilers!

[identity profile] eldena.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
That might be the moral, but I assumed the secret was just referring to the big gooey monster made out of people's desires to die that molests Minato forever. It's a nerdy kind of cute.

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I can't take credit for it. It's [livejournal.com profile] gamera's in-joke about weeaboo roleplayers.

[identity profile] jade--dragon.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...I've wondered similar things about Loveless. XD

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? But then, I think only adults would worry about the technicalities ;p

(Anonymous) 2008-05-13 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
7. Then what do you think we were supposed to get from it? I've honestly been trying to come up with something sensible since I finished the game. "Live like you mean it BECAUSE LIFE IS SHORT, YO"?

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"We're all going to die, so live life like you mean it". It's pretty simple, almost trite really, but true nonetheless. All the Persona games had similarly basic but undeniable themes ("shit in the past may suck, but all you can do is move on"), a contrast to the main series' warring moral philosophies and... whatever Devil Summoner is supposed to be about. (I think DS:RK is "militarism is bad, mmkay", but as for the others your guess is as good as mine.)

I spend a lot more time than I should thinking about the ears thing, too. I mean, Kouya and Yamato manage to lose their ears to each other. So maybe just, uh, genital-on-genital action? Oral? This is so confusing.

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, now you've got me thinking about it.

I mean, on one hand for women you could even go for the traditional (if flawed) version of virginity which requires the loss of the... the not-medieval word for maidenhead which I can't remember right now - so you could technically lose your virginity to your hand. And if you want to get really perverted, does the partner have to be human for it to count? I mean, for people to have cat ears in the first place there had to be some weird stuff going on in the gene pool.

Maybe it's mental, and as soon as the person believes their virginity is lost, their cat ears go away? (That seems like the only way that makes sense to me...)

Re: 20

[identity profile] wishmasterfuuma.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I never thought about it being a mental thing.

I had to stop reading Loveless because... the relationships amongst characters made me angry, in short. But I could never stop thinking about what made you lose your ears and that mental thing makes sense to me.

I've started calling lost virginity an orgasm given by another person because we've gotten really creative in our sexual habits as humans. Really creative.

And I'm lesbian, so?...

...(Who are Kouya and Yamato?)

Re: 20

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
But you can have sex without orgasming - I mean, there are a lot of women out there who haven't had an orgasm because they're doin it rong through penetrative sex.

You must not've gotten far if you didn't get to Kouya and Yamato - they're the canon lesbians. :P

Re: 20

[identity profile] fuumawithwhips.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't get very far at all, no. A certain book ending early in made me so irrationally angry and so morally against it that I just could not continue on. I've nicknamed the series "Speed" for its anger-inducing effect. Oo...

True. I like to pretend to live in a happy world where women only give themselves up to men who love them enough to make sure they're happy~ But yeah. You're right.

That was me.
