Oh, rofl, I'll be surprised if this doesn't cause wank. *MUST LOOK THROUGH COMMENTS* But anyway... you know, I'm inclined to agree since I'm not a Squall/Rinoa fan (Seifer/Rinoa and Squall/Quistis all the way! I like my pairings edgy, and/or differently similar when it comes to the individuals themselves), but... that would mean calling some of my friends delusional, so no. D: I do agree in the sense that I also don't think he would be so willing to shut the door on what he's known all his life just to run off with some girl basically on impulse. Squall — despite his 180 personality change wtfff — is still an order-loving dutyphile (I totally made up a word), and I've always seen him as the guy who puts work just a little before everything else. Sure, he can love Rinoa at the same time — I always thought they'd be excellent friends omggg srsly THEY'LL BRAID EACH OTHER'S HAIR LOL, but the idea of them doing anything sexual squicks me something awful :| — but I'm not willing to subscribe to the idea that he'll always drop everything for a girl. That's foolish, and even though Squall is an idiot sometimes, I don't think he's that dumb.

Really, there's just something about the pairing that bugs me, but I can never quite place it. I love Rinoa, and Squall's alright, but... HUH. Maybe because they both kind of underwent a personality change? Squall's was extreme and annoying, but it wasn't the worst in my opinion — I thought Rinoa was like, totally badass at first, but then she kinda just... became so dependent on Squall, and that irked me far more than a little. Yeah! Let's perpetuate the damsel in distress stereotype, Square! :Dd Don't step out and make a female character who doesn't fall in love, especially with the main man!

Like ... All the women who are independent, throw your hands up at me? :( ...Please? OMG WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?

...BUT W/E THAT'S MY STUPID ESSAY, TIME TO MOVE ON. I'm just on a huge FF8 kick lately ... plus, as I said, not a Squall/Rinoa fan ... so add it up, and it amounts to I had to stop and spend a little time on this one. :D;

P.S. - I always preferred the technical aspects of FF8 more than the "love story" anyway. I wanna know more about the GFs! The war! The countries! :( Fuck love, I wanna learn interesting things! *nerd*

It almost hurts me that throughout all of FF8 they never really think to consider the implications of the fact that all the characters are essentially child soldiers conscripted to use weapons that eat their memories. I mean, that's a goldmine.

I AGREE WITH THIS COMMENT SO MUCH. Seriously, you said everything I wanted to and more. I was never a Squall fan from the beginning (I actually liked Rinoa more than him, oddly enough)but by the end of the game I felt like banging my head against the wall from what they did to him and Rinoa. When she first appeared, I thought she was awsome and couldn't see where the hate was coming from, but I ended up becoming so aggrivated by her constant damsel-in-distress role. It's not so much the idea of them being in a romance that squicks me (although I would have liked it better if they were just close friends and didn't get together...) but how it was handled.

I was also way more interested in the wars, countries, etc. than the half-assed "love story". I guess one of the main reasons why I'm not a big VIII fan was because I felt those aspects didn't get as much attention as they should have, and the whole thing just felt sloppily thrown together.

I agree with this comments on two accounts- I too wanted MOAR POLITICS because I love that stuff, and moar Quistis/Squall. I mean... "Oops, now I remember I was like his big sister before I lost my memories, and it was just out of misplaced siblinglike love that I took him TO FREAKING LOVERS LANE."

Oh Quistis. You were supposed to be the smart one.
