(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 12:46 am (UTC)(link)Though, random opinion here: The main reason for our laws though, imo, is because Americans drive everywhere. A lot of places in the US are spread out farther than Europe, and many places don't have reliable public transport besides Uber and cabs (and some rural areas not even that), which are pricey. So, more of Americans drive long distances in general, and when the drinking age was upped to 21, accidents went down significantly.
So imo, its a combination of an uptight culture and the fact that a lot of people get in trouble with drunk driving.
