I seriously can't believe there someone out of there who thinks that AoS is better than the Netflix shows. I just can't.

I haven't seen the others, but I definitely enjoy AoS more than I enjoyed Jessica Jones. AoS certainly has its issues, but I like most of the characters and it's fun. I'd heard great things about JJ and expected to love it, but I felt like it was basically just a sequence of awful depressing things happening to people I didn't particularly care about, which is decidedly not my cup of tea.

I feel you. I had to take a break from JJ for a while and eventually went back and basically forced myself to finish it.

Same with Daredevil. I only got through the second season because of Punisher.

And I never got past the first episode of Luke Cage.

I mean...there's plenty of stuff that netflix does that works for me. But these shows? Not so much.

(ayrt)

Eh, both are different kinds of not-so good, but while AoS got more enjoyable with time, Netflix shows got worse. The sad part is they could be improved by: fixing the damn pacing, and hiring writers who actually know to write good dialogue.

And I mean this. Who the hell thinks is a good idea to spending the first minutes of the very first episode of a show having tertiary characters talking about basketball players while NOTHING happens?
And I wish that was the only example of how bad those shows are, but it's just one or many.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
While I do agree that every new MCU Netflix show is worse than the previous one, they are still good shows and certainly much much better than the bland and mediocre AoS in every aspect, from writing to acting to visuals. AoS is such a basic and forgettable show. Even the pacing is a fucking mess, half of the episodes feel like filler. It should've worked better with less episodes per season like Agent Carter did.

Tbh you sound like the kind of person who only seeks cheap and very basic entertainment if you can't even deal with the opening scene of Luke Cage. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I think the problem here is you, not the shows. I think you're trying to watch something that isn't for you.

I was going to answer you fully and earnestly, but I think I'll just say two things:

-That opening scene is just one of many pointless scenes on Luke Cage.
I even get what they were aiming for with that, but they should have found a way to make it organic and relevant instead of boring their audience for several minutes in almost all episodes. And that's not even the main issue of Luke Cage or their other shows.

-Assuming other people have bad taste to dismiss their opinion doesn't make you seem like you're superior.
It just makes you seem like an idiot who disses anyone who dares to have fun with other shows instead of only watching and praising any pretentious show you consider good.

Calling something pretentious is just another way of saying you're too dumb to understand it. 'Pretentious' is anti-art and illustrates your approach to things being entirely juvenile.

Do you enjoy setting your bars low, then acting like you're the king on the throne, as if one follows from the other?Your subjective opinion of the show is not an objective fact.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I also call Hannibal pretentious (I also think the last season had some very bad scenes, specially the snails ones) and I love it, because unlike you I can admit a show I like is flawed, and even enjoy because it's just tv, not srs bsns!

It's possible to make something artistic without making it hammy, it's possible to include a message without preaching, it's possible to make something serious without making it a snore fest. Netflix shows fail on all that.

But you know what, yes, I'm too stupid to understand a silly show that has one simple plot that they spell it out with subtlety of a hammer and repeat in case their audience forgets it.
Please keep enjoying your shitty shows while pretending they're ~high art~ :)

Ok, I'll just say this, this is the last reply you'll get from me, I'm not touching this thread again with a 10-foot pole. I'm not going to waste more time listening to your ridiculous and juvenile argument, it's clear as daylight that your attention span is warped and you're taking my statement about your choice of fictional entertainment as a personal offense. Don't. What films and shows you like has absolutely no bearing on your quality as a person, and even less bearing on what anonymous people on FS think of you. It's okay to like bad things.

I can understand millennials calling "art films" pretentious (still dumb, though), but the Netflix shows? Seriously. Are you perhaps using the word "pretentious" because you know the reasons you disliked these shows are shallow and lack confidence? These are shows about guys punching people with unique visual styles, witty dialogue between characters and a lot of monologues.. They have no aspirations of being intellectual, they aren't even challenging series (and no, most people didn't have a problem with the first minutes of the very first episode not being about a guy punching other dudes). Not liking a series doesn't automatically make it pretentious or bad.

The positive reviews for the Netflix shows severely out number the negative ones. These are shows loved by the public and critic. Does it make more sense to you the shows the vast majority said are good and entertaining are in fact, good and entertaining? Or is the small minority that says the shows are bad and boring correct? It is still possible to someone like you to accept that a show you may dislike, is not actually a bad show and actually has a quality to it that you can't understand and appreciate?

But if you want to tell yourself that you are right and the rest of the world is wrong, go ahead. The enlightened among us. Whatever makes you happy, darling. Just let me tell you this

It's okay to like things that are bad
It's okay to dislike things that are good.
AoS is not only a bad show but boring, and that's why no one is watching it. It doesn't even function as entertainment.
The Netflix shows are good AND despite what you might believe, they are fun and that's why people are having a great time watching them, that's why they are a success.

Have a good day and remember, the world doesn't revolve around you.

So, popular = good, and you insult anyone with a different opinion, then tell them to not take it personally while ignoring all their points and acting like the enlightened one.

This is hilarious.

(ayrt)

I can't believe you answered. And I don't even mean this is a good way, because... what are you trying to say? You're even repeating stuff I said from the start, while also being immature with your news attempts to insult me.

But hey, you could learn from your own "advice", if you bother to read what you wrote :) Which maybe you'll do, since you do believe the world revolves around you and that's why you don't read what other people say and act as your opinions are facts without using actual arguments!

Also, the only Netflix show that was REALLY acclaimed was Daredevil S1 (which was promising even if over-hyped).
Jesican Jones? Was pushed as a feminist show, but got mixed reviews.
Daredevil S2? Most people like if for the Punisher and admit the plot was a mess and the magic ninjas were ridiculous.
Luke Cage? The worse offender so far, barely got half of the attention all other shows got.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
NA

I do. AoS has its problems, but it's fun. The Netflix shows aren't.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Agents of Shield is shitty Marvel fan fiction with literal OC inserts wasting characters that should be in movies and confirming that they never will be. Netflix is great in general but Jessica Jones could have been leagues better if it was more like the comic book and Cage show was pretty bad. And lastly Daredevil is all time goat and a fantastic adaptation that proves you can take comic book stories and use them to your advantage.
