Australia has very little to do with the Pacific Islands, if this is a race-and-culture issue for you.

It's got a lot of archetypal themes and character types that can appeal to viewers who have never seen a coconut on an actual coconut tree.

People enjoy stories about people who don't look or dress like them every day. Ancient Rome. Knights of the Round Table. K-drama. Regency Romance. Napoleonic Wars.

A heroine torn between worthy-but-boring home chores and ADVENTURE? A hero whose bluster covers insecurity? This is going to resonate with a lot of viewers. Plus some kicking animation and nice music.

It's fine, nonny.

It isn't really either of those things though, is it now. They could have told that story a lot better with more traditional material and characters if it were.

cultures other than western europe have "traditional material" too though? like, that's literally what they used for Moana. Traditional material from Polynesian culture.

It might be Pacific folk tales, but it isn't traditional material.

Can you stop talking in circles and just outright say "it's not white enough"?

You have a very peculiar view of the world.

"It would be better if they were all white."

I don't know why you're surprised. This same anon makes this same argument every time any of the Disney movies focused on PoC come up.

Not true. I found The Waitress and the Deadbeat, the one where they got turned into frogs, pretty realistic. Until the ending, I guess, but it was Disney so unrealistic idealism can be excused for that.

Surely you have something better to do with your time, like making sure that your goin' to meetin' sheets are pressed and clean?
