I really don't think the issue was ever about female Ghostbusters considering this wasn't the first time that women took up the mantle. Nobody complained about The Real Ghostbusters.

The Real Ghostbusters, like the cartoon series? That was the original movie ghostbusters, only animated.

If you mean Extreme Ghostbusters, which had one female buster on the team... sooo many people complained about Extreme Ghostbusters for so many reasons.
