(Anonymous) 2017-03-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)I will say the heroines in this show outrank the "heroes" by so much it's not even funny. She's like 10/10 and he's maybe 3/10? Sorry to channel ugly!anon, but really, I find him repulsive to look at. Seriously what is what taking ugly!hero and gorgeous!girl to the extreme on this show? I guess the first detective dude on this show wasn't terrible to look at then...although the female lead, actress Sara Martins, was so much more attractive than him it was extremely noticeable. And oh, his ENTIRE PERSONALITY was unpleasant.
This guy seems slightly nicer from what I saw, not constantly complaining about everything, but he's just so unpleasant to look at.
Why did they get rid of Fidel? He was beautiful. The one really attractive guy on the show.
Am I shallow for saying all of this? Well, I AM anon here...and I just want some kind of beauty standard applied to all these 'awesome white guy heroes,' if we can't get rid of it for women.
Like seriously, either cast some ordinary-looking women once in a while in more heroic roles on these shows, or start casting more gorgeous dudes. Or are only men allowed to have beautiful people to look at here? Is this just a man's show then??
And yes, I pretty much stopped watching it when Fidel left. He was my fave and not just because he was so beautiful....
Ugh. I just grew to hate this show for several reasons, adn apparently I still have a lot of opinions about it!! :P

(Anonymous) 2017-03-10 08:15 am (UTC)(link)Excuse you, Danny John-Jules is right there.
...And I liked Richard.
(But I agree that Humphrey is solidly average in real-world terms, and being compared to Camille and Florence isn't doing him any favours. There should be way more hot guys on this show and it should start with the main character, IMO.)

Anyway, Humphrey doesn't seem the type to be able to pull off that kind of arrangement without falling straight off the island! He is not good with women, or emotions, most especially his own. Though I'll give you she might pity him enough to conceivably have sex with him if he were.
I like that he got a nice, happy romantic ending without being murdered like both his successors. Saint Marie is not doing well in keeping their detectives alive, Father Dougal needs to watch himself.
Death in Paradise is neither bad or good enough to warrant much of a presence for me in fic circles, sorry.
