Scotland does not own the rights to whiskey, so I'm not clear on your point here. Do you get pissed off if someone calls it "coffee" instead of "café"?

But it does own the right to Scotch Whisky, and that is the point. Scotch Whisky can only come from Scotland and so they have the right to decide what it is called. And have, there are acts of Parliament relating to its naming in that regard.

Scotch whisky is just called "Scotch." Whiskey can be made anywhere.

Why, do the Scots not understand that other countries spell words differently? Will they also lose their shit when they realize that what they call "crisps" are known as "chips" and what they call "chips" are called "fries" in the U. S.?

Pfft, that has nothing to do with it. If it's spelled whiskey, a Scot would simply assume it's something other than Scotch. So, the spelling is perfectly valid - but not for Scotch.
