I'm the one who nominated S.! It's one of those books that's like three stories in one, a bit like House of Leaves. The main characters write notes to each other in the margins of the book they're both borrowing off and on from the library, which becomes an incredibly engaging storyline on its own. It's a lot of fun!

Do any of the characters mention seeing a planet in another star system exploding without the light having to travel through interstellar space?

God I fucking hated House of Leaves with the passion of a thousand suns.

And the notes in the margin storyline just seems incredibly distracting, particularly for someone like me who has enough focus issues! lol
