06, Yes you're right, hating most of fandom will mean that you don't have many fandom friends. And wishing probably won't fix it. Other people don't have to pander to your needs and stop doing what they want unless you are the author. Also, WTF? You're not seriously trying to tell me there are no creepy het pairings out there?

I'm not, but slash is usually the most common. sorry if you misunderstood that.

I don't necessarily tell people to do x and y, I just kinda wish there wasn't so much...crazy stuff in fandoms.

but then again, like stupid extremists in politics and religion, usually the worst crap is the most obvious though it could be a minority. so maybe I just need to poke deeper.

I've got a little tip for you here. "I'm sorry you misunderstood that," and the related "I'm sorry you feel that way," are among the easiest ways to come across as a jerk on the internet. It's on a list somewhere, I swear. Does it not sound even remotely passive/aggressive to you? And that's assuming you haven't screamed I HATE EVERYBODY!!!! WAAAAHHH!!! first.

And since you've defined in your secret that anything not canon is 'crazy stuff' then my original diagnosis stands. You are not going to have, or make, very many fandom friends. Now you can either sit and whinge about it (like you are doing) until the majority come around to your point of view, or you can make an attitude adjustment, or you can just deal with the fact that people don't like people who hate them and call what they enjoy creepy. Just don't hold your breath for that first one.

The funny thing is, if they'd come back with, "No, you're being hypersensitive and using my unfortunate sense of wording to imply something I didn't intend." I would probably have reread it and ceded the point (about the slash thing at least, not "I hate you all, now why won't you be my friends?" being a moronic statement).

But instead I get a useful link to bookmark for the next time someone pulls a heidipology! Thankyou!

I got the impression she really wasn't interested in canon based fanfic or fanart either. She just didn't hold the same horror of it that she does for non-canon pairings.

Which leads me to be bewildered why she wants to be involved with fandom at all. After all you can casually squee about canon with RL friends, or just read the official forums and wikis to get the superficial stuff. Fandom is for the stuff canon can't give fans.

This is what I've decided too, after a reread.

And I'm confused about that as well, I mean, if only canon is acceptable, then all you're left with is some carefully worded meta, and squeeing over announcements...and that's what you get on the official forums. Why even head off into fandom, where the non-canon stuff happens, seeing as how you [generic] hate it so much?

Oh that attitude has always been popular (amongst n00bs)! Until we beat it out them. Then we train them to embrace the horror and like it.

lol, I just seem to have seen a lot more of it recently. But then I've only really been involved in fandom since last July.
