72 - There were definitely some issues there. Like the cheerleader who manipulated events to force her girlfriend to come out of the closet. And the kid who harassed a family who forced their late son to become more normal. There was a definite cruelty present. Then again, Veronica Mars had lots of heterosexual cruelty too.

Veronica Mars Spoilers (Season 2)

72. Yes, that. And there was also the case of the boys who were molested and who almost all grew up to be gay (this was hinted with Beaver through the line, "You could pretend anything you wanted") and Veronica's reaction in the episode with the cheerleader coming out to her. Veronica was noticeably uncomfortable, which seemed to me to be an odd characterization choice, and one that was never addressed. It was as if Thomas felt that Veronica being uncomfortable was the most realistic and understandable reaction, and I'm not sure if I agree with that, considering Veronica's personality.

Anyways, it was just a bunch of little things. But they really started to pile up over three seasons.

I think part of it was Veronica's preconceived notions - that the girl was a cheerleader which meant that she couldn't also be a part of a disenfranchised group (the gay community). Veronica did show a tendency to place people in neat boxes until getting to know them better, as much as she hated people doing that to her. (ie. assuming Weevil was letting his grandmother take the fall for his own credit card fraud, assuming Parker is a "dumb blonde".) She pretends to be more cynical than she really is. (Which she should have been called on more.)

But word on molested kids and things piling up.

Ah, I hadn't thought about it that way. That makes the scene much more understandable to me, because I could not imagine myself reacting in that way (or most of my friends) and... Veronica Mars is supposed to be smarter than me!

I did actually like that Veronica was flawed in her assumptions and overconfidence, though. But I also feel more comfortable with flaws when they're acknowledged by other characters or by the show. That's why, while I liked season three over season two, the Veronica in that season wasn't as likable.
