Well, it's your choice, of course. All i have to say is - fuck anybody who bitches about 'inflating numbers' or whatever. That's so stupid. I like to reply to comments left 'cause that seems like the right thing to do, and frankly, whatever anyone thinks of my comment count being 'inflated' can go suck eggs.

Seriously, it's up to you. Reply to them all, reply to none, reply to some, whatever. Judgey people are gonna judge, but fuck 'em.

ETA: And as a reader who leaves comments? 'Thanks!' or 'Glad you liked it!' is just fine. I don't need a soliloquy or anything.

Also, a reader may just as well assume only half of the comments are from readers, and the rest are answers, as assume all are reader comments. So I don't get "the inflating numbers" thing either. I always answer comments left on my fics. i don't get that many, and they always makes me happy- to me it's a matter of politeness and showing my apreciation. :)

Exactly! And like another person said upthread (i think) - I don't even *notice* how many comments a fic has, it's not a factor in me wanting to read it or not.
