What makes you think I have any particular bias? I tried to like his stuff because someone recced it to me and I love F/A.

The better question is, why wouldn't you be biased?

Everyone has their own inner preconceived notion of how a character should be portrayed. If it doesn't fit your expectations, no matter if said expectations are systematically "correct" by Phoenix Wright canon standards, then hells yes you will find any and all details in said fanwork that will turn you off to the characterization.

Of course you're biased.

I'm not a canon nazi by any means and accept most kinds of characterization as long as it is justifiable. His stuff is just bad. I'm almost starting to think you're him.

Nope, nice try, though! I don't write women.

And being biased does not mean you're a canon nazi. Did you read my definition of a self-serving bias? EVERYONE is fucking biased. There IS no correct characterization except for what the official writers of Phoenix Wright dictate.

Basically, this whole argument is bullshit because everyone's conception of a character could be completely different while, at the same time, being completely WRONG when placed against the writers' intentions.

I read your explanation, snorted, and wondered when you had to catach your next high school philosophy class. Look, no one is going to have the same exact characterization as someone else, but there are certain traits/quirks/systems of thinking/personality that some characters undeniably have. If you depart from these things, that is incorrect characterization.

I did reference that there are certain traits that some characters undeniably have, but none of the above-mentioned people (this Klavier RPer, cftf to the extent I am familiar with his stuff) actually departs from these traits, so it is a moot point. It seems you cannot read.

I am a masters student, thank you very much.

I'm beginning to think that you haven't actually read Funk's stuff, lulz.

(frozen comment) Re: 20

(Anonymous) 2008-05-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with Funk's Adrian characterization, but I have not heavily dissected or read any of his fanfiction.

But that wasn't exactly the point of my commentary. I just want everyone to shut up and accept some differences in opinion.

He's okay with Adrian because he writes blandly [his characters his prose: all generic] and Adrian a bland character to begin with, although I would argue that she demonstrates a lot more personality in the game than he writes her as having. That aside, his Franzy is generally agreed upon as being awful.

Truthfully, I couldn't hope to find a better Adrian to rp with. I am very grateful that Funk not only has an amazing handle on Adrian, but also is great in coming up with ways for her to interact with other characters, as she is usually a bit of a loner.
