People who try to disguise their hate for a ship with faux-moralising always suck, especially if it's very obvious they actually hate it because it's a rival ship. (Even better if, from a moral standpoint, their own ship wouldn't even be any "better" when it comes down to it.)

But this person is acting like Zenyatta/Genji is some kind of persecuted ship. it is the most popular Genji ship and the 6th most popular ship in OW according to Ao3.

That doesn't mean people being obnoxious about hating a ship by playing moral high ground don't exist? I'm not in that fandom, but I've seen it in other fandoms a lot. Vocal haters, even if they are the minority are still obnoxious and holier-than-thou haters are one of the most annoying kind.

The persecution still happens though. I'm not even into Genyatta, but I've seen plenty of tumblrinas cry about it being problematic because teacher/student or 15 year age gap. The latter of which is a bizarre criticism considering one of them is a robot.

Oh no, trust me, I've seen some people on tumblr go APE SHIT at Genyatta shippers. One artist was even forced to link their genyatta (or, shit, even erotic Zenyatta) art off site because some butthurt buddhist practitioner guilt tripped them. It's like... bro, seriously?

I wouldn't say it's "persecuted" but as another anon mentioned there's a lot of unwarranted hate and a bunch of fucking weird fights about it. There's people who think writing about them being sexual with one another is "problematic" and "wrong" because apparently people really love to make anybody that's not a human their pet ace headcanons so Zenyatta got stuck with that label and people use gross cliches like "but don't draw them having sex, I just want them to be so...so pure" with the implication that having sex is somehow gross and dirty and they're not "pure" anymore if Genji and Zenyatta want to have sex with one another.

Not to mention the Gency fans on tumblr can be pieces of work sometimes. Not that the Genyatta fans are 100% free of blame but Gency fans are really smug because they know the head writer ships Gency so they feel they have the "power of canon behind them". The moment in the comic where Genji and Zenyatta spent Christmas together and it was implied he's writing letters to Mercy, a bunch of Gency fans got so nasty and "I told you so" over it that the letter writing became a meme in Genyatta fandom, with people using the image as a meme and writing the "content" of Genji's letters ("Dear Mercy: Thank you so much for my latest upgrades. I can fuck Zenyatta 5.6 times faster with the new reinforced hip pistons you installed. We are both most grateful. We hope you are well and are having a Merry Christmas!""). They also started something with Pharmercy fans if I remember correctly.

Finally, the sixth most popular ship? Lol, there's only so many ships that really sailed in Overwatch and Genyatta, while generally stable and has a core group of fans, isn't exactly one of the top ones. Being the sixth popular ship is actually worse than I expected.
