See, that's the thing I struggle with. You've got some movies that were genuinely groundbreaking - so there's nothing particularly impressive about remaking them. It's a sure thing. And in some cases, improving on minor flaws is made even easier, because of COURSE you can tweak small things when you have a product that's already amazing! And if you're not an idiot, it won't ruin it either.

In a way, this is very similar to the question of retranslating in translation studies - whether or not it's legitimate to retranslate a work that's been translated well. And you get the people who say that things *must* be retranslated every 40 years or so, to keep them up to date - but then who's taking care of the original?
I think part of it is this obsession these days with only looking forward and never glancing back.

I've never heard about that translation debate before. That's interesting.
