The actual realism of it doesn't really stop sports anime from acting like their players are superhuman-level athletes, though

See: Eyeshield 21

If anything, high school sports anime is even more ridiculous, like these are supposed to be teenagers but they pull off these impossible superhuman feats.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
See: Prince of Tennis

Not that I don't love PoT but it's patently ridiculous and impossibly superhuman for 12 year olds in general.

Or KnB? Those effects are straight out of Naruto!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I've never actually watched KnB! I tried to watch Haikyuu!! too but couldn't get into it, though I really did only give it like 5 episodes.

Oh man, you should watch KnB. The levels of "physics don't work like that, everybody has superpowers" is pretty incredible.
Also Kuroko is one hell of a sneaky guy with an agenda tbh.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I will definitely give it a try then, thank you. :)

I think I watched PoT and laughed the entire time-- I don't think high school sports anime is meant to be taken with any level of seriousness

So this. I can't take any sports anime seriously due to the over-the-top athletes' movements. xD

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly well seasoned on sports anime, but Yuri on Ice didn't seem over the top. Even when the animation was clunky, they used a real choreographer's movements to draw the routines. Real figure skaters can do everything done in Yuri on Ice.

When it comes to figure skating, it's all about the women for me. Men's pro FS bores me to tears.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Why?

Just out of curiosity

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hard to say. With the exception of Yuzuru Hanyu, few if any male skaters seem to capture me with the kind of artistry that female skaters put into their programs. Not to mention male costumes are often atrocious.

LOL Plushy, never change. Seeing this somehow reminds me of Winter Olympics 2010 and the bit of fandom that was active around that time on here. I was a fan of Johnny Weir too, or least, a fan of what he wore.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, flashbacks to that horrible FS where he front-loaded all his jumps, then flailed around for the rest of the program. He (thank god) lost the gold, so he gave himself a platinum medal.

I also remember how devistated I was for Patrick Chan, even though I usually avoid rooting for Canadian skaters because their stans are the worst.

I don't follow figure skating and I still knew what this was going to be.

That is amazing \*v*/

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
+1 for ice dancing love!

Okay, I just watched it and that was amazing!

And here I was thinking you'd say it was because the current rules made it all about quads. Which has made things boring imo. Give me fun artistic programs instead of reward quads, quads, and quads.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I would say that, but women's skating hasn't gone unscathed either so it wouldn't be exactly fair. I agree though.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Agree. Female body is just more aesthetically pleasing and more aerodynamic. Men tend to be bulky and less flexible.
