I'm a season behind so haven't seen this but her job was never her reason for living. Answers, revenge, closure...those were things she was living for. Her job was a means to an end and she reached that end years ago.

Sherlock taught her detective work as a means of coping with her trauma. In the episode you haven't watched yet, she says that she left the U.S., she took on as many cases as she could just to keep going, but no, she hadn't really found closure yet until she had the baby.
