So... Are there any real decent-sized general fandom hubs outside of tumblr (besides fanfic archives, which aren't what I'm looking for)? I decided that tumblr wasn't for me, but I have to admit that since I left I can't help but feel a little lonely.

Twitter.

OP - Oh, right, I forgot about Twitter. I admit that I'm more than a little turned off by the character limit - it seems like something that would make communication more difficult?

If there is, I'm unaware of it. Tumblr today is what LJ used to be. It's there or nowhere.

Reddit. Some fandoms also have large presences on 4chan, especially videogames, western cartoons, anime, TCGs, and so on.

4chan fandom is qualitatively / stylistically different from quondam-LJ fandom

That's not a criticism of it, just saying that it doesn't really work the same way

OP - Heh, yeah, I don't think 4chan and its style would jive with me, either. Probably should have said something like that in the original post. Reddit's a good idea, though, so thank you.

ia, but OP asked for other fandom spaces and it's a major one for a lot of fandoms. Hell, even fandoms with sizable tumblr and reddit presences also have busy generals or use their 4chan threads as a community chat for the fandom.

Post quality and ratio of shitposters varies wildly by fandom and board, but it might be worth OPs time to check out.

Seconding Reddit. It can be a bit hit-and-miss, you might find a great community for your fandom thing, or you might find a cesspool of toxicity. But if you get a hit, it's awesome, and I like it almost as much as I loved LJ.
