I think that's the difference, for me. The "relatively easy to follow" part. It seemed centrally located and easier to kind of follow or journal hop to watch the reactions. It also felt like more of "happening within the community" type of thing, whereas today "fandom" doesn't have the same sense of insular community and so the drama/wank has a different feel.

Also a lot of it happens on tumblr and I can't follow that shit at all. I just see glimpses of it, and trying to track back anything is nigh impossible.
