Good for him to be able to keep his personal life secret. Saw him in concert...he was not as great at I thought he would be.

I've seen NIN 3 times. The first and third concerts were amazing. The second one was... eh. Which sucked, because that was the one I drove the farthest to see. He knew it didn't go well too - he tweeted that he'd gone out "with a whimper" (it was supposed to be a farewell tour that lasted all of... 3 years? I think?). That was the tour with Jane's Addiction, and most people were there to see JA's reunion. I think it's really hard to go the extra mile in a performance if the crowd is largely unresponsive. He just kinda fell flat. Meanwhile, JA went second and bored the tears outta me, and I left early. Different strokes, I guess.

But the first concert in particular (the Lights in the Sky tour, I believe) was AMAZING. I think it would literally require David Bowie and Freddie Mercury coming back to life and performing to outdo it. Whoever did the production design deserved every award that is possibly given for those things.

Granted, I'm a huge NIN fan. (Although I don't know if I can really say that, considering I was under the impression he only had two kids? Lol.) But yeah, he definitely has his highs and lows.

The Jane's Addiction one was the one I went to! And yeah, he was pretty meh. I actually enjoyed JA's addiction performance more than I did NIN and I knew almost nothing about JA.

LoL. Did you go to the Austin one? That's where I saw them. It was pretty late in the tour, and I think Reznor was kind of done, especially if the audience wasn't going to be responsive. Everyone in my section (save me) was clearly there for JA, and I could tell that was the theme across the arena. I'm a casual JA fan, so the combination of obnoxious people around me, screaming in my ears, and the fact that NIN was done just kind of did it in for me. JA was not grabbing my attention at that point, so I was out. Oh well. I got a cool shirt that says "NIN|JA" on it, and I wear it when I want to feel badass. :P

*internet high five*

If only they'd put as much effort into production as that perfect combination of initials, lol.

This is one of those situations in which your fan curiousity is understandable but you really need to accept it and move on. Move back the goalposts and be pleased you know anything about his family at all. Advice from one obsessively curious fan to another...

Wow, you're a creep.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-26 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
They're a weirdo.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
What the hell are they doing here?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-26 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't belong here.

Shit, I had no idea he had any. That's okay, though, if he likes his privacy.

Wow, four kids? She has him locked down good and proper, lol.

IKR? And she isn't even a decent singer.

On the one hand, I get the whole "rock star becomes responsible family man" can be an unwelcome reminder that one's wild and carefree teen/young adult days are over. On the other hand, NIN was popular when I was in high school and what makes me feel old now, at the age of 37, is how most of my similar-age and younger peers have kids and if I want kids, I'm running out of time. A 51 year-old with children does not make me feel old.

Obviously fans are allowed to be curious, but I respect the decision of any star who keeps their kids out of the limelight. They're much more likely to grow up healthy and stable if kept away from the media in those vulnerable years. (Obviously just telling people their names probably wouldn't matter, but he's drawn his lines, and that's as it should be.)

Don't let it.

I like a fair few Nine Inch Nails songs and I really like what he and did for The Social Network. And he's articulate and interesting when he talks about music. I can understand why you're a big fan. The fact that he's kept his personal life so under wraps means it's really important to him, so maybe take what he chooses to share, enjoy it, and let the rest go.

i had no idea they were up to four now! the last i heard they'd just had the first one. i remember reading an interview with him a long time ago and he said he'd only be interested in having kids when touring life etc had really calmed down and he had real time to dedicate to it. i'm so happy that it all worked out for him.
