I think if any Disney movie from the modern era was crying out for a remake/reboot, this movie was not it. There wasn't much to fix, well not without gutting the movie of its central plot; obviously kidnapping someone to live in your scary cursed castle is not okay but it is the central conceit of the movie so its not something that needs fixing, so it really didn't achieve much.

Now a reboot/remake of Aladdin, that might be worth it. It would do a lot to build bridges with the Middle Eastern community, especially if they actually did fix some of the nastier stereotypes on display.
