They do it in Harry Potter fandom at least. I'm sure it acts like an advertisement for some people.

I wish they would in my fandom so that I don't have to find out that a character I may or may not like is a rapist or abuser in a story with nary a clue in the summary or tags.

Torchwood fandom does bashing notices, not so often with the Doctor Who side of fandom though :-/
