But see, if someone ask me why I don't ship Snape with adult Hermione, my answer would be: Their dynamic doesn't do it for me, I don't read the characters as people who would be good together. I don't have a charitable enough view of Snape's character to feel he deserves Hermione or would treat her right.

OTOH, if someone asked me why I don't ship Snape with fourth year Hermione, my answer would be: Because seeing statutory rape depicted as sexy squicks me out big time.

In either case, "It's just not my thing," would really be a non-answer. "It's just not my thing," is like a politicians answer; it's very diplomatic, but it doesn't really tell you anything.

Neither of those answers sound like moral judgment to me. Their dynamic doesn't do it for you. This depiction squicks you. Sure. People are squicked by all manner of things for all manner of reasons; that's on them and a personal thing.

Notice how you didn't say, "because teacher/student is wrong."

You say diplomacy like it's a bad word, when no, being polite should be the default in a communal space. On your own journal, like I said, is another thing.

It's not what OP said, it's how they said it that can be read as being judging of others. I don't care if OP doesn't like incest. I don't care for incest either. I'm not about to go into a comm full of incest kink ships and declare "incest is wrong," just like I'm not going to go into a comm full of dubcon or rape fics and go "rape is wrong" even if people ask why I don't like it, because that's a silly thing to do that is obviously going to make people feel like I'm judging them for shipping the totally fictional things they ship??
