I mean, I guess it's kind of multiplayer in the sense that you can fight for gyms I think? I'm not high powered enough to even TRY taking over a gym so I don't know 100% how it works.

Yeah I've been leveling up so slowly since I'm out in the middle of nowhere and I just don't have the same opportunities to earn exp that other people surrounded by pokestops do, so I never got into the gyms. For me it's completely solo.
