has occasionally made reference to the idea that maybe they're an undiagnosed something

If they ever bring this up again in your presence, you could mention one or two potential diagnoses. ("I know you've mentioned struggling with X and Y in the past. Have you read anything about [specific disorder]?")

They still may not take it well. But since they brought the issue up themselves, in conversation, it's a reasonable opening for you to mention it.
