Granted I only have secondary exposure to him and his fandom, but as far as I know every time the mocking of slash fic writers has come up, it's been the interviewers springing it on him or literally making him read from it. I don't really blame the guy for bristling.

DA

He's made some comments about slash fans that have rubbed me the wrong way. But to my knowledge, nothing he's said has really been worse than pretty much any other man out there who attempts to explain slash but very much Just Doesn't Get It. And in BC's defense, he keeps being specifically asked to talk about slash fanfic and give his options on it. The interviewers don't care that he has an incredibly limited, perfunctory concept of slash and fandom; as far as most of them seem to be concerned, he's the star of this stuff so he is the natural voice of authority on it.

Yeah, the worst thing I remember was the Caitlin Moran premiere debacle, and while I don't think Cumberbatch and Freeman handled it particularly well, they was dropped in the situation, obviously uncomfortable, and I can't blame them for finding the whole thing weird and embarrassing.

I do blame Moran, it was an unpleasant thing to do to the writer, pretty unfair to the actors, and it's particularly disappointing considering she makes a big thing about her feminism. Cumberbatch mostly seems to only talk about in interviews because interviewers bring it up.
