Fandom Regrets

Anyone have any?

This was a while ago so I've gotten over it (although it's still sad), but I really regretted drifting from so many of my close fandom friends. In the end it was bound to happen, and there's not much I or they could've done differently; we were different people outside of fandom. But it was hard because some of them had been my best friends since I was in high school. Then the Harry Potter books ended and so did our friendship.

Like I said, I've accepted it at this point, but it hurt a lot at the time. I have some of them on Facebook, but let's be honest, it's not the same.

Not getting into Star Wars earlier.

Mainly when the first Funko Pops came out so I wouldn't have to pay 50$+ for Queen Amidala in the present day

OMG I can't even find an opened Wicked Witch of the West Funko Pop for less than $80, it kills me!! I love Wizard of Oz but they released them so early before Funkos took off.

in 2006 I got fed up with fandom and deleted all my fanworks (some of which were relatively popular). A few years later the fandom went through a resurgence. If I'd left my works up they'd now have tens of thousands of hits and accolades.

I was kind of a bitch at the Heroes forums. Everyone used netspeak and for some reason, I thought it was my job to explain that netspeak was hard to understand, and a little immature.

... then someone joined a writing group I'd started, and upon their first and only time there, told us everything we were doing wrong and basically made us feel like idiots. I thought back to my behavior on the forums and realized how I probably made everyone feel. (Assuming they didn't just think I was a weird English Major troll.)

When I was a young fan, the first story I ever published ended up being nominated for a large (for that fandom) award. I was asked to participate in the ceremony but it was a "live" event and I had dial-up and had never instant messaged or anything like that before so I said I couldn't make the "ceremony". I've always felt like I missed an opportunity to make friends because of that.

This is totally normal. There was no indication of their true relationship.

Probably lurking so much back in the day.

Also, deleting my entire fandom journal without notice. As I said, I mostly lurked, but I did have a few friends and I really regret not staying in contact.

What was y our name, if you don't mind saying? Maybe a few are here. I had a few friends who randomly deleted and I always wondered about them.

I... kind of regret investing as much energy in fandom as I did. I had fun, yeah, but I can't help but wonder if it might not have been better to invest in something more lasting.
Or more original writing rather than fanfiction all day.

Same, TBH. I always complained I didn't have more friends, but I also had fandom as a backup for social activities, and wonder if I would've put more effort in if I'd forced myself.

So do I, although more because it burnt me out on everything else. Sometimes I wonder if I'd find it easier to socialise now as an adult if I hadn't spent all my teenage years indoors on my computer.

I'm glad I never let myself get too invested fandom/cosplaying when I was younger. I had fun going to conventions but I see the kind of money my cousin spends on her costumes which are gorgeous but I know I would have gone broke trying to do that then.

Being involved in sporking communities and just being a little shit in general as a teenager/young adult.

I can relate to that.
