... most OTPs I've heard of are troubled. Maybe OTP meant something different in 2008?

I didn't write this secret, so I can't speak for the OP, but my issue with it is that OTP means One True Pairing, and I just can't see Jack settling for just one pairing for any length of time, no matter how intense that pairing might be. Jack's relationships are a whole lot more complex to me than OTP can encapsulate.

I think by "too bright" they literally mean it was bright, as in the lighting of the show.

...I mean I guess that wouldn't bother me either, especially given that so many films and shows these days seem ALLERGIC TO LIGHT AND COLOR.
That's such an odd complaint.

okay seriously though why are all shows so... dim. and desaturated. Half the time I'm watching shows wondering why no one ever turns the light on in their goddamn house.

Because REAL LIFE is SERIOUS and how else will you know that this show is SERIOUS if it has something stupid and frivolous like color in it?

It's a stupid trend and I hate it.

I think some of it is "atmosphere", but some of it is probably to save money.

If you have a cheap set, you can't see a lot of the flaws in dim lighting. Darker makes it a little easier to blend in CG. You can use cheaper cameras, especially for moving shots. Less light also means less make-up.
