Tolkien + hard science fiction?

I adore Tolkien a lot, but with his very wordy scenery porn and multiple names for much of his main cast, it can be rather hard to get through his books. If you added lots of unusual scientific or science fiction jargon to that...

...well, I don't think it would be very popular because it would be a difficult read. Just my two cents.
