Re: Why do people hate whump and cuddles fic

Personally, I have no beef with schmoop, whump, or cuddles.

However, I love UST about a thousand times more than I love RST, and schmoop and cuddles so often seem to coincide with RST. At which point I often tend to get bored. I'm actually a big fan of excessive, angsty pining and OTT sexual tension (guilty, inconvenient erections, ahoy!) so my issue with schmoop has nothing to do with thinking it's "immature" or whatever. But then, once my ship gets together, I actually prefer a much more spare touch.

Like, for a lot fans, the plot seems to become less important once the characters get together. Once that happens they just want to write/read about the characters having All The Sex and being close and incredibly in love. That's where the schmoop often comes in - big huge sugary-sweet chunks of it. Whereas for me, the plot actually becomes more important after the characters get together, because my interest tends to kind of languish in RST. I need the plot to keep things moving and shifting and to shake my OTP up in intense new ways.
