Too Big 4: That's exactly what twinged me about it. (Well, no. There's a lot about that episode that was badly handled.) But one of my major issues was that halfway through the episode Dean knew she was in trouble and he did nothing. And we're supposed to think this is something a sympathetic hero should do.

Dude, she shot them in their freaking beds.

Or she thought she did, but still, she was going to kill them, and I love how you squeal about her being a bitch and loving it.

She was a bitch. She was a bitch trying to kill Sam and Dean, and you're pissed cause Dean wasn't being sympathetic to her?

I don't know whether to laugh at you or just feel very sorry.

The episode did suck, they went out of their way trying to make people feel sorry for her with a horribly overdone backstory.

I wanted her to have no reason to have killed her parents, no remorse, no lame "it wasn't my fault, I was young", having someone else yet again do the dirty work...I wanted her to be a fucking straight up psycho/sociopath (I'm not sure which one she'd be after that).

I wanted her to be fucked up, and twisted, cause that would have been interesting, but yet...they failed.

And god damn it, I wanted to like her so bad too, but it was sooo terrible, even Ruby (whom I hate with a fiery passion) was better.

Because she'd tried to shoot them in their beds before Dean figured out about the deal-- oh wait. Because Dean offered to help her with the deal and she tried to shoot them instead-- oh wait. Because she'd tried to kill them at any point before-- oh WAIT. Dean's the white knight. The knight in shining armor. He saved people when they were in trouble-- the fact that he shamed Bela for not going to him FIRST (hullo, hypocrite) and then left her to die? Yeah, sketchy, sketchy writing and characterization of a formerly heroic character.

Bitch. Right. And people get surprised when fans say SPN fandom is sexist. (Yes, she was cold and kinda sociopathic. I like that in a character-- male or female.)

The episode sucked because the heroes were unsympathetic and the writers treated what could have been an interesting character shittily. They made her a rape victim, then made her beg and cry while the heroes did nothing. They shamed her for the entertainment value. If anything's fucked up and twisted...

Bela screwed them over again and again, right off the bat she fucked them over, since BDABR. And then RSAM, Fresh Blood, DALDOM, JIB, and TIOMS.

She was a hazard. And Sam and Dean have always decided who gets saved and who doesn't deserve it. They did it in Faith and Tall Tales, why would this be different.

And sociopathic characters are awesome, plus Lauren would have knocked that out of the freaking park if they took Bela in that turn, rather than give her a lame backstory.

Which bringing up this, but I absolutely hate people who dislike Bela, and bash Lauren. Lauren is sweet and funny and hella sexy, and Bela sucking so hard was not her fault, she took what (little) she was given and she did her best.

Of course the heroes did nothing, she screwed them over repeatedly nearly getting them killed several times and they were supposed to care about what happened to her?

She toyed with their minds and their stuff. She never actually tried to kill them or anyone else. (She made it pretty clear that she knew they'd survive anything she threw at them, in fact.)

BTW, the guy in Tall Tales? Was the motherfucking trickster. He was a supernatural creature-- you know the things they have no compunctions about killing? And the woman in Faith had set a reaper on them with full intent of killing them, and stopping the reaper from killing Dean had the incidental side effect of getting her killed. IMO, they wouldn't have killed her purposely. Same with the guy in Hollywood Babylon.

And that's, of course, ignoring the implicit rape threats, the shaming, the acting as though she's somehow far more terrible than them when Dean made a deal with full understanding of what he was doing and Bela clearly didn't...

But,

samdeanfetish, it's fine. We're never going to agree because you clearly think the Winchesters (and the writers) can do no wrong, where I see characters who are turning in completely unsympathetic bastards and writers with a decidedly sexist bent.

And besides, Sam and Dean were too far away to do anything about it. Dean knew about her deal, and what she had done, but it wouldn't have made a difference, they didn't know how to stop the hellhounds, or get out of the deal, otherwise they would have done the same thing for Dean.

She was screwed, nothing could have been done. Plus they already saved her in RSAM, and look what happened.

It would have been cooler to see Bela get out of the deal herself, without anyone else's help.

But behaving as though Dean isn't ACTUALLY a huge douche bag is ridiculous.
