Lots of them!

07. Your reason is better than mine. My reason is just that the kinds of relationships people consider "realistic" to want don't appeal to me much.

16. I would agree with you, but I actually know people in RL that like her, so maybe it's just some of them. Actually I always thought she was a fine villain to have, it's just my annoyance with people who think having tits should make you unkillable and that even if you try to kill men they should never call you names that makes me especially hate her. Way to go, SPN fandom. Some of us understand that it's not necessary to adore all people who have vaginas unconditionally in order to prove that we don't hate our own.

19. Probably, in my experience Goodshippers don't want to hear logic about him. I mean, I don't like him and I got called a Harmonian even though I only ever wrote H/D and H/G, never H/Hr.

24. Oh G-d me too.

35. I was in the HP fandom from 2000-2005, when exactly was it supposed to be nice? Because I totally missed the nice years.

37. Eh. I was born in 1964 and watched the old show after school. But I still like 9 the best of all the Doctors.

39. I would say WORD because I don't like Logan either, but. I also don't like Duncan that much. None of the 09ers was enough of a friend to her to stand up for her after what happened to her. What's wrong with Weevil? He's totally fucking hot.

54. I love Ayn Rand and I am not an Objectivist. I never was. I used to be a Libertarian but I got better, and I was one of those before I read Ayn Rand. It's fiction. People who don't agree with Objectivism need to get that liking the books as the fiction that they are doesn't mean that you are an Objectivist. It just means you like them. (Although, Rearden > Galt. That steel bracelet is the most romantic present ever.)

63. It was a cheap shot to make us like her and I don't accept it. Like the idea that Owen in Torchwood was nice until his girlfriend's brain was eaten by aliens, it's stupid. Some people are just assholes.

74. OMG SO MUCH FAIL. SRSLY, STFU AND GO BACK TO YAOI-LAND. Slash is for people who like real men in all shapes and sizes and colours and clearly you are not old enough for it. My OTP > you. Also, OMG ANTISEMITE. Hitler's Angels is that you? No wait, your photoshop is too good.

80. :) Yep, you're right. That is THE WORST thing about it. Of course only a selfish person would get a (very expensive) cat knowing they were going to die in 10 years. Fortunately there are some great Siamese rescues out there.

TB!3: I work in a teaching hospital (not as a doctor) in the transplant department and every time they do transplant stuff it drives me nuts how much they get wrong, but I can totally believe that, because they do bring up all kinds of weird problems and diseases that you would ordinarily never think of and there are certainly cases of people that are that bizarre, just not so many at one hospital.

TB!4: You're missing the point, as so many of her fans seem to do. It's not that she "didn't deserve" to be saved. It's that she was constantly trying to screw them over and she lied so much that there was no reason to believe a word she said was anything other than another attempt to manipulate them into fucking themselves over. They saved people who didn't "deserve it" all the time. (Arguably I believe that no one deserves THAT.) But they don't save people who are trying to kill them from the results of their own actions more than once. Therefore, she's dead, just like Gordon, and the preacher's wife in Faith. Because she was trying to kill them. But I know, she's a woman (and zomg an abuse survivor!), so she should never die or be called mean names, no matter what she's done to them. CRY MOAR.

You got called a Harmonian just because you didn't like Ron? That's crazy. But I think you're probably right. I'm definitely a Goodshipper because it was the logical one, and not because I had any crazy attachment to both Ron and Hermione.

I didn't like (and wouldn't write) either R/Hr or H/Hr. Before HBP, I didn't see much logic to either of those ships. There was the fight she had with Ron in GOF, that people said was evidence she liked him that way, but until HBP, that always seemed like a perfectly natural reaction to being asked out by someone at the very last minute and the corresponding assumption that in a situation where boys have to ask girls out, you'd be available at the last minute (and hence, that nobody else would have wanted to ask). I think I even had a fight like that with a friend that I definitely didn't want to date.

I always felt like Hermione having to end up with one of them was like Scully having to end up with Mulder--why couldn't she just be their teammate and have her own romantic life outside? Idealist, I know.

But yeah. FW had me down as a Harmonian on their wiki for like, forever. It's because I didn't like the fact that they were trolling the Harmonians and then laughing at them when they got upset about it. I wasn't pro H/Hr, but I thought they had a right to their opinion.

It always bothered me how obsessive the shippers were. It was part of why I ended up writing mostly slash in that fandom.

Also the whole "Slytherfen are racists" bullshit. We're not, we just recognise a difference between reality and fiction. There were a whole lot of reasons that the analogy Rowling tried to make between racism and blood prejudice was really bad, and pointing them out is not the same as defending racism.

Oh, HP. I'm so glad I could quit you.

Yeah, I got sick of how the Harmonians are treated like the fandom joke and the really offensive stuff the Remus/Sirus fans say about Tonks gets ignored.

And now I'm in a fandom that's almost equally batshit. Goody.

I don't buy either Remus/Sirius or Remus/Tonks, though I do find R/S more believable even though R/T is canon, but there's no need to be offensive either way.

(I actually find it sad that R/S is more believable. Remus is too good to be with someone who would betray his deepest, darkest and most dangerous secret just to play a nasty trick on someone they don't like.)

You raise a really good point. Hermione could've easily had a romance outside the trio, and it would've seriously been okay. Oh, and I actually think that Slytherins are pretty interesting (case in point: Snape was probably the books' most interesting character). I also think that JK Rowling sometimes interprets her own series the wrong way.

Oh, HP. I'm so glad I could quit you.

I'm almost there... but it is proving hard to quit an almost 10-year-old habit ;)

Careful, you'll end up on F_W!!!

:) If it's possible for an author to misinterpret her own work (which is arguably debatable, and I'm not sure where I stand on it except that I HAVE had the experience of people telling me they saw stuff in my writing that I didn't see, which turned out to be there when I looked), then I would have to agree that JKR is quite likely to have done so. What I dislike is how she encourages the fanwars and trolling by claiming to find them amusing.

Ooo, I've never been on F_W before... that'd be exciting ;)

Maybe interpreting the wrong way isn't the right way to phrase it, because many people can interpret one work in many different ways (now that it's not like 1:00 am and I can think more clearly :p). She has definitely been getting on my nerves with the whole encouraging the fanwars thing, so I agree with you there.

Interrogating the text from the wrong perspective?

Ha, F_W.

Nah, I probably just interrogated my own thoughts from the wrong perspective.
